Don Cautions Against Negative Use of Social Media
The Dean, Post Graduate Studies, Kwara State University, Malete, Prof Hamza AbdulRaheem has cautioned against negative use of social media, saying that the many people are misusing it to cause acrimony.
Prof Hamza AbdulRaheem stated this while responding to questions from journalists at a press conference organized by the old students of Darul Uloom Arabic School to herald the 60th anniversary of the Arabic Institution.
The University don who is also an alumni of the School condemned the act of indiscipline and mid-interpretation of the teachings and sayings of the glorious Quran and Hadith by some Islamic clerics who are abusing the use of social media
While calling for attitudinal change to ensure sanity in the society, the lecturer maintained that lack of gate-keepers is causing abuse of social media platforms.
According to him " those involved in exchanging words and banter on social media are suffering from half education, they are only seeking for popularity and cheap publicity, where does that popularity lead them to ?"
The lecturer of Arabic explained that nobody can claim the ownership of Darul Uloom except the Emir of Ilorin, stating that the school was established in 1963 by the then Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulkarnain Ibrahim Mohammed in collaboration with the Ulamaa and Imams in Ilorin.
He stressed that the school started with about forty students now has more than three thousand students population while many of its products have become lecturers of Arabic , Islamic Studies, lawyers, judges and others are in other disciplines of study doing excellently well.
As program of events for the 60 years anniversary of Darul Uloom continues, there will be a special Jummat Service at Ilorin central mosque on Friday, while the Award Presentation to notable personalities will hold on Saturday and it will climax with special debate on the future of Arabic in Nigeria on Sunday.
