Tumour: Kwara NUJ lauds Arowona for bankrolling teenager's surgical bill

The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the newly launched Non Governmental Organization, Foundation for Advocacy and Sensitisation on Tuberculosis, (FAST), Dr (Mrs) Misitura Lawal-Arowona, for solely bankrolling the surgical bill of a 13 year-old boy, Nwafor Emmanuel.

The teenager, Nwafor Emmanuel is the son of a member of the Union from the Information chapel, Mrs Ndidi Nwafor,  who was clinically diagnosed at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for  Nasopharyngeal Tumour, a likely cancer illness.

A statement issued by the Chairman of the Council, Abdullateef 'Lanre Ahmed, and the Assistant Secretary of the Council, Mallam Mahmood Olayinka Alaya, appreciated the founder of the foundation and her husband, Mallam AbdulAzeez Arowona, who is a member of the Council for their timely intervention to safe the life of the young boy.

"As a council, we have taken note of the series of interventions and support of Mallam AbdulAzeez Arowona to NUJ family in different ways both in the past and present. And the latest of the support coming from the foundation, which his amiable wife just floated, is most enthusing and enamouring.

"We express our profound gratitude to Arowona's family for choosing to bankroll the surgical bill of the teenager, Nwafor Emmanuel, who is in dire and urgent need of financial aid to attend to his health.

"We understand that the intervention is coming at a time that resources are shrinking but our prayer is that the Almighty God lifts Arowona's family higher and replenish them in manifold", the statement said.

It, however, pleaded with well-to-do individuals in the society, industrialists, political office holders, politicians and other notable personalities in the state to always render their unalloyed support to members of the pen profession in the task of discharging their constitutional roles and improving their well being.

While identifying with Dr Misitura Lawal-Arowona, a multiple award winning researcher and chemist on the birth of her Non Governmental Organization, the Council expressed its readiness to build a robust partnership with her foundation and other relevant organizations in the state towards addressing some of the societal problems and challenges bedevilling the people, especially the indigents and vulnerable groups.
