Volleyball: First Cornelius Inter Club Tourney Starts Dec. 14

  First edition of Cornelius Olowola Memorial Inter-Club Volleyball championship is all set to kick off on Thursday, says Kwara State Volleyball Association, KVA. According to Coach Wale Gbadamosi in a statement on Tuesday, the Championship will feature male and female categories. The competition begins at 9am, from  14th through 16th December, 2023 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the State's Sports Commission. Top volleyball clubs like Unilorin Spikers, Olalomi Royal Spikers, Ajase-Ipo Volleyball Club, Offa Volleyball Club, NYSC female and Volleyball Club would be part of the tournament. Others clubs expected are Ikotun-Ile Volleyball Club, Iloffa Volleyball Club and Harmony Volleyball Club. The Championship which is sponsored by one of the association's veterans who based in UK, Mr Dele Olowola is part of the association's drive to positively engage the clubs within the state ahead of national and international Competitions.

Phreestyle Sport comes with 'Kwara Made Us' Five Aside Tourney

  Ilorin, the Kwara State capital will be the center of attraction and attention for the best of 5 Aside football tournament as Phreestyle Sport will be organizing maiden 'Kwara Made Us' tournament. The week long intense soccer fiesta will be taking place between 18th and 23rd of December, 2023 with the aim of honoring the state with the Five Aside competition. Shogo Shodunnke who is the brainbehind the initiative disclosed that the 5 Aside event was also aimed to "honor Kwara State's impact on fostering opportunities and providing sustainable platforms for the prosperity of both indigenes and non-indigenes, acknowledging it's role in advancing individuals and creating a conducive environment for all to sprout."   Coach Abdul Abdulkadir 'Romeo' Abdulkadir of Kwara's para table tennis contingent in the ongoing National Para Games, NPG, Abuja 2023, has vowed to make it a clean sweep of medals at stake at the competition. Speaking on Monday after the para athletes classification of ahead of tomorrow's openers for the para table tennis competition, Romeo said that he has eyes on all the medals at stake. A testy Coach Dogo, as recalled after the last mid week fixture against Doma where Kwara United managed a goaless draw against the visitors despite dominating play all through the encounter, had come out fuming, blaming the draw on the newly revamped Kwara State Stadium main bowl pitch. Dogo said that the football turf is too bumpy for his style of play. NPFL Moves to Bring Back Friday Night Matches

  With the full return of matches on television screens and broadcast streaming platforms, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has turned attention to introducing Friday night matches. In a memo to the NPFL clubs, Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer, informed the clubs Chairmen and Chief Executives that the night fixtures would be introduced pursuant to cited sections of the NPFL Framework and Rules. "Pursuant to Section B, Article 4.1 and 13.4 of the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League 2023/24 season and in conjunction with the CAF Club Licensing procedure, the NPFL wishes to schedule some of its fixtures for Friday night matches", the memo read.   -- Says he won't let Kwarans Down National captain of Special Eagle, Sharafadeen Olalekan, has expressed gratitude to Mall Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara State, and Sen John Enoh, Minister of Sports Development over their respective commitments to special sports. Olalekan spoke early Saturday morning at the training peach, Package A of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, ahead of the Para Soccer match in the ongoing NPG which kicked off yestrrday. Speaking on the matter, he acknowledged that putting the games together must have taken enormous resources. "This is the second edition of the games and affords Kwara as defending champion of the NPG soccer championship to defend its title. "Governor Abdulrazak has done well in supporting the state para soccer team so much so that we have no option but to defend our title well," he said. Absence Of 10 States Won't Dampen Thrills Of Para Games-- Minister

  NICHOLAS UWERUNONYE Minister of Sports Development, Sen John Owan Enoh has stated that traction in the National Para Games, NPG, is in on the upswing, insisting that the absence of whole 10 states from the sporting event won't take away from its glamour. The Minister pointed out that NPG is in its second year and needs its time to grow, while also clarifying that the absence of the states in question doesnt at all mean that the games doesnt have the buy in of the governors. The minsiter said this in Abuja shortly after declaring the games open at the mainbowl of he Moshood Abiola Stadium. "I dont think so. The games is in the second year. I believe that every new edition should get more and more traction and we will be getting more and more buy in.   Adebayo Jamiu, captain, Kwara para games team, has vowed to bring medals from the ongoing National Para Games to Kwara State, specially to honour Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazak. According to him, the governor has shown so much support for para games in the state. "He was the only governor who visited us during the last edition of the national Nara Games which incidentally is the first of the games. Egypt wins U17 Girls African Nations Volleyball Championships

  Egypt defeated host Nigeria 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21) to lift the trophy of the 2023 Girls U-17 African Nations Volleyball Championship. The final match played at the package  of the Moshood Abiola Stadium on  Thursday in Abuja had in attendance Nigeria's Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh and top dignitaries. Reacting to the loss, head coach of Nigeria U17 team, Sunday Akapson said the players gave a good account of themselves. He said, "These are young girls and this is their first time playing in an international championship. They fought hard to secure a ticket for the World Championship next year.   Hon Idris Abdullahi Musa, Chairman, Kwara State Football Association, FA, has described the death of Joseph Olaniyi Oladipo, who, until his passing in the early hours of Monday, was chairman of Irepodun Football Council. "It is a sad occurrence for Kwara's Football family and a great loss indeed for the country.  "Coach Oladipo was in his second tenure as a democratically elected local council football chairman, one of the enduring legacy he has helped in installing in the state.   "Kwara FA will never forget his contribution," Thuraya said in brief statement signed by Kasheem Agaka, Kwara FA Secretary. Thuraya further condoled the family of the departed and the Irepodun football confraternity, asking God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
