SWAN commends Kwara govt, charges members on registration

  Kwara state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has praised the state government for sustaining its sports facility renovation and construction culture in the state. The commendation was contained in a five-point communique drawn at the end of its State Congress, held at the State Stadium Complex, Ilorin, on Wednesday February 28, 2024, and signed by the trio of Jimoh Bashir, Nicolas Uwerunonye and Olayinka Alaya. It would be recalled that the state government last week approved the renovation and modernization of the dilapidated Indoor Sports Hall. “SWAN Congress commended the state government on its numerous sports development interventions, which includes, but not limited to the renovation of facilities, especially the recent approval for the renovation and upgrade of the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin”, the communique read in part. Parental Consent, Inadequate Basic Needs, Bane of Football Scouting In Nigeria--DollyP Sport Academy

Parental consent and lack of basic needs from potential future players have been identified as a major challenge facing scouting of future footballers in the country. The President of Dollyp Sport Academy, Mr Ahmed Yusuf stated this while briefing journalists at a press conference in Ilorin ahead of their second phase scouting exercise. Dollyp Sport Academy in conjunction with sporting Gijon of Spain are currently in Ilorin to scout for football talents in Kwara central, north and south for possible market in Europe. Mr Yusuf explained that some parents and guidance find it difficult  to release their children and wards for football scouting exercise, despite showing traits of potentials, citing frequent insecurity of the nation and lack of trust as their major concerns. Wheelchair Basketball Federation Expresses Fulfilments As National Technical Workshop Ends in Ilorin

  The President of the wheelchair basketball federation of Nigeria, Mr Seyi Johnson has expressed fulfilments for a successful and hitch free 2024 national workshop for its technical officials ahead of the maiden wheel chair betking basketball league. Mr Johnson who expressed satisfaction with the attitude of the participants at a two day workshop, noted the federation will not relent in organizing more beneficial programs and clinics for its officials to further expose them to the rules of the game in order to perform effectively . BetKing Wheelchair Basketball National C’ship to commence in March

  The President of Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria, Seyi Johnson revealed that the maiden edition of the BetKing National Championship will commence in March. Johnson disclosed this during the National Technical Workshop for coaches and officials at the Kwara State Sports Commission in Ilorin on Wednesday. He affirmed that the officials for the BetKing League will be selected from participants of the workshop  "The workshop is a precursor to our new agenda, which is the Wheelchair Basketball League. We will be introducing the Wheelchair Basketball National League, and we are starting in March. “The officials that are participating in this workshop will be the referees and officials to handle the league. WBFN to select league officials from workshop in Ilorin

  Ahead of the proposed wheelchair basketball league, successful officials at the National Workshop will be selected, according to the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria. The Secretary General of WBFN, Aminu Sikiru made the disclosure during the arrival of officials for the National Technical Workshop which will commence on Tuesday, (February 20th) at the indoor sports hall of Kwara State Sports complex in Ilorin. Sikiru revealed that the technicalities of the game will be handled by the Technical Director of WBFN, Tunde Popoola. He said, “The national workshop has a lot of benefits and one of them is to upgrade some of our officials. Barr Aiyelabegan Hails Governor Abdulrazaq's Approval of N2b Upgrade of Indoor Sports Hall

  The approval of N2b for the upgrade of the Indoor sports hall of the Kwara State stadium by the state executive council under governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been described as another huge step towards revamping sports facilities in the state . The Chairman, Kwara state Para Athletics  Association, Barrister AbdulKadir Aiyelabegan stated this while reacting to the development. Aiyelabegan stated that the upgrade is long overdue considering the importance of the edifice in the development of athletes in terms of their training and retraining. Breaking: Fire Outbreak Razes Alangua Warah House

  Fire outbreak believed to have happened on account sudden power surge, Monday evening in Ilorin, capital city, Kwara, north central Nigeria, has razed the home of a community leader, rendering 20 of his tenants homeless without most of their worldly possessions. The fire began by 5:30 pm. DDM got to the scene at 8:40 and saw fire fighters still battling the raging inferno. As learnt too, the fighter truck had returned after exhausted the first water tank it brought to quell the fire. The affected house belonged to Alhaji Saka Imam, the Alangua, Wara, Ilorin. Alanguas in Ilorin are community elders appointed by the Emir of Ilorin. More details later..
