Habeeb Akeem Wins Kwara Open Trophy 


Habeeb Akeem of Ilorin Golf Club emerged winner of the 7th Kwara Open Golf Championship with a gross of +2 , 146 over 36 holes.

The National Youth Games discovery player carded +4 , 76 on Sunday after opening the event with a -2, 70 on Saturday.  He held on to his lead on a nervy Sunday afternoon to see off the challenges from Oluwatoba Segun, of Ikoyi Golf Club and Sikiru Jimoh of Mic-com Golf Club Ada, who both finished on +7 , 151 to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. 

The event which featured over 140 players saw Idowu Oladele of Ikeja Golf Club winning the best net prize with a net of 141 over 36 holes, beating Jamiu Muhammed of Ilorin Golf Club to 2nd place using the count back rule after the both finished with the same score. Kunle Ademokoya of Ilorin Golf Club finished 3rd a shot further back on 142.

For Handicap 13-28 category , Olaitan Shabi of Sagamu Golf Club took the star price with -7 ,137 net, followed by Moshood Shiru of Ilorin Golf Club in 2nd place with 140 net . Muhammed Ibrahim of Ilorin Golf Club a shot further back in 3rd place.

Other winners are Justice Lambo Akanbi (Rtd) of Ilorin Golf Club won the BOT category with 82 net over 18 holes.

Mens veteran went to Alaba Yahaya of Ilorin Golf Club,  Super Veterans category went to Dibu Ojerinde also of Ilorin Golf Club. 

Best gross ladies was won by Mary Onyejose of Tiger Golf Club Ibadan, Amaka Robert's of Sagamu Golf Club finished 2nd,while Victorial Abiodun of Ilorin Golf Club took the best net ladies prize .

In her remarks the Director of Marketing Sluqfort Nigeria Ltd, the marketing outfit for the event thanked the title sponsor, Kwara State Government and other co-sponsors for making the event a huge success. She said she looked forward to more collaborative efforts with the sponsor and the management of Ilorin Golf Club. 

In his speech ,the Executive Governor of Kwara State,  Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq pledged  government's continues support towards the development of golf and sports generally . The governor who was represented by the Executive Chairman  Kwara State Sports Commission,  Mallam Bola Mogaji said continued government's commitment is seen in the support given to the forth coming Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) , Western zone open tournament billed for 15th - 17th of August on Ilorin golf course .

The competition will see the best of female golfers in the country converging in Ilorin for the championship sanctioned by golf's world governing body, The Royal and Ancient Club of St. Andrews.
