Okoko wins 1st ICMA PRO-AM Open Golf Tournament
Godwin Koko claimed the overall title at the 1st ICMA PRO-AM Open Golf Tournament 2024, finishing with an impressive score of 18 under par.
Representing the IBB Golf Course, Godwin first gained recognition at the 5th National Youth Games in Ilorin and has since made a name for himself in the sport.
He commented on his journey, saying, “Each tournament is a stepping stone, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow as a player.”
In a post-tournament interview, Godwin expressed his excitement about the victory, noting that while he aimed to perform well, he hadn’t anticipated taking the top spot.
“I came here to give it my best shot, but winning was beyond what I expected,” he said.
Looking ahead, he shared his aspirations to compete internationally, stating, “With sponsorship and support, I don’t see myself playing in Nigeria next year. My goal is to represent our country on a global stage.”
The ICMA International Services, which sponsored the tournament, allocated a total prize pool of 15 million Naira for the top 30 finishers.
As the overall winner, Godwin will receive 1.7 million Naira as his star prize.
Reflecting on this achievement, he remarked, “Winning this prize is a huge motivation for me and confirms that hard work truly pays off.”
