Seyi Tinubu Citizens Cup to Kick Off April 12 in Ilorin with 16 Youth Teams Set to Battle
Sixteen youth football teams are set to lock horns in the highly anticipated Seyi Tinubu Citizens Cup, scheduled to hold from April 12 to 19, 2025 in Ilorin, Kwara State. The tournament, which is supported by the Kwara State Government, promises not only a display of football talent but also a rallying platform for youth empowerment, development, and leadership.
Speaking at the press briefing held Thursday, April 10, 2025, at House 12 Hotel in Ilorin, Head of the Organizing Team, Bello Aliyu Olamilekan, emphasized that the tournament is more than just a sporting event—it’s a movement.
> “It’s about a movement that tells the world our generation is not just waiting for change, but driving it. We are proving that we are ready—not just to play, but to lead, to inspire, and to transform our nation,” he said.
Olamilekan thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued support of youth and sports development in Kwara State, describing his administration’s efforts as “a lifeline for the youth.” He also hailed Seyi Tinubu for providing not just a tournament but a stage for young Nigerians to rise, while commending Otega Ogra for backing the initiative.
“Football is a language that speaks to every dreamer, a bridge that connects aspirations to reality,” he said, urging young players to participate with passion and integrity.
Kwara State Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Maryam Nnafatima Imam, and Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, both praised the initiative as inclusive, engaging, and transformative. Magaji particularly stressed the need to foster unity and friendship through the event rather than pursue a win-at-all-cost approach.
Tijani Lawal, CEO of Steady Global Investments Ltd., added that the competition aligns with President Tinubu’s development-driven agenda, stating that sports remain a powerful tool for inspiring hope and transforming lives.
