 Gold-Winning Nursing Mother Aims for Olympic Glory, Calls for More Support for Shooting




Mrs. Oduah Ozuazor Best, gold medalist for Team Delta in the Rifle Shooting category at the ongoing National Sports Festival (Gateway Games 2024) in Abeokuta, has called on governments at all levels to invest in the sport of shooting to enable it compete with more popular sports across Nigeria.


Speaking to journalists after her medal presentation, Mrs. Ozuazor, a nursing mother of a two-month-old baby, expressed immense joy at winning gold for her state and emphasized the potential of shooting as a medal-winning sport for Nigeria in global competitions.


 “I’m excited with this gold for Delta State. With hard work and unwavering commitment, I believe I can achieve my dream of representing Nigeria at the African Games and the Olympics,” she said.


The determined athlete, who overcame personal and physical challenges to reach the podium, said shooting deserves greater recognition and support.


> “Shooting has the potential to bring medals for Nigeria internationally. With better funding, training, and facilities, we can dominate the sport globally,” she added.


Meanwhile, the latest medal standings in shooting from the festival are as follows:


🥇 Ogun State – 9 Gold, 10 Silver, 3 Bronze


🥈 Rivers State – 8 Gold, 6 Silver, 7 Bronze


🥉 Delta State – 8 Gold, 6 Silver, 4 Bronze
