Golden Glory: Kwara Emerges Best Squash Team at NSF 2024

Team Kwara has asserted its dominance in Squash at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by clinching six medals—three gold and three silver—to top the medals table in the event.

This remarkable feat cements Kwara’s position as the best-performing state in Squash at the festival.

Reacting to the development, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji, hailed the athletes for their dedication and discipline, describing the victory as a “testament to unwavering commitment and hard work.”

Speaking to journalists at the Alake Sports Centre, Mogaji, himself a veteran coach and former Squash athlete, attributed the achievement to the renewed focus, resilience, and determination of both the athletes and their coaches.

> “Though I had hoped for even more gold medals, I am proud of this outstanding result. There are a lot of positives to take home from this outing,” Mogaji said.

He assured that the Commission would intensify training for young players across the state while continuing to nurture its top athletes, stating that Kwara has deep roots in Squash.

“Since assuming office, I’ve consistently advised my coaches to remain focused and dedicated because their success depends on it. We will now challenge other associations to raise their performance levels,” he added.

Mogaji hinted at a new strategy for future festivals, suggesting that the Commission might focus on quality over quantity:

> “If I have my way at the next festival, I may not take more than 50 athletes—just those who are committed and capable of delivering excellence.”
