A member of the Elite Athletes Development and Podium Finish Board, Olumide Oyedeji, has emphasized that one of the board’s core mandates is to identify talented athletes and implement a comprehensive blueprint to nurture them for major competitions like the Commonwealth Games, African Games, and the Los Angeles Olympics.


Speaking to journalists at the Alake Sports Centre on Friday, the highly decorated Nigerian basketball icon noted that the Gateway Games provide a formidable platform for the discovery of raw talents with the potential to represent Nigeria at international championships.


“I’m happy to see athletes from across the federation competing in the spirit of love, unity, and togetherness,” Oyedeji said. “This festival promotes national integration and serves as a tool for growth and development.”


He expressed joy at witnessing athletes participate with enthusiasm and camaraderie, stating that such events foster progress regardless of political or religious differences.


Oyedeji also commended the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for ensuring that the facilities required for a successful tournament were in place. He expressed hope that the next host would build on the momentum created.
