Ilorin Set for Historic Turbaning of Baba Iliyas as Egbejila’s 3rd Daudu
Preparations are in top gear for the turbaning ceremony of Alhaji Mualim Mohammed Baba Iliyas as the 3rd Daudu of Egbejila Wara Osin, with a series of events scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 24, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
According to the official programme released by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), activities will commence with a special prayer at Balogun Alanamu’s residence by 11:30 AM, followed by a lecture organized by the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria (Ilorin Branch) at 2:00 PM. A Waka night (Islamic praise singing) will take place between 10:00 PM and 12 midnight to round off the day’s events.
The main turbaning ceremony will be held on Friday, July 25, at 10:00 AM at the Emir’s Palace, where His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, the Emir of Ilorin, is expected to officially turban the new Daudu. This will be followed by a grand reception and entertainment featuring popular singer Abere Ijo at Balogun Alanamu’s Quarters immediately after Jummat prayers.
The celebration continues into the following week. On Monday, July 28, the newly installed Daudu will pay a thanksgiving visit to the Emir of Ilorin at 10:00 AM. Then, on Tuesday, July 29, Alhaji Mualim Mohammed Baba Iliyas will make a triumphant traditional entrance into Egbejila at 10:00 AM, marking the formal return to his community as the newly turbaned Daudu.
The ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries from across the state and beyond, celebrating the new Daudu’s elevation and reaffirming the rich cultural heritage of Ilorin Emirate.
