Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka Dedicates SWAN Award to Members, Urges Unity and Professionalism

The Director of Football, ABS FC Ilorin, Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, has dedicated his Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Award to all members of the Association across the country, urging them to remain united and committed to upholding professionalism in sports reporting.

Speaking at the 60th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of SWAN, Chief Chukwuemeka described the milestone celebration as a significant moment in the Association’s history, coming at a time when it was recovering from years of leadership crises and internal division.

He commended the current national leadership of the Association, led by Benjamin Isaiah, for restoring stability and confidence among members after over a decade of internal wrangling that, according to him, “caused severe damage to SWAN’s credibility and professional integrity.”

“The 60th Diamond Jubilee celebration and the presentation of awards to senior colleagues and distinguished individuals who have contributed to sports development and promotion in Nigeria were remarkable,” he said. “I became emotional seeing many of the veterans and senior colleagues who had made sacrifices for the growth of sports and the Association being recognized and honored.”

Chukwuemeka noted that beyond the personal recognition accorded him, the event represented a new beginning for SWAN and a positive sign of renewal for the body that has long been a cornerstone of sports journalism in Nigeria.

While expressing regrets over some of the decisions taken during past challenges, he emphasized that they were made in the best interest of the Association given the circumstances at the time.

“Going forward, I urge the leadership and members to focus more on the unity of the Association, reconciliation, and, most importantly, the promotion of professionalism among colleagues in sports reporting across the country,” he added.

He concluded by dedicating his award to all SWAN members nationwide, affirming that the Association is “back and better,” while praying for the continued growth of Nigeria and its sporting media.
