AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Will Keep Improving — SWAN President
The National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isiah Benjamin, has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will continue to improve as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) progresses in Morocco, urging Nigerians to sustain their unwavering support for the team.
Mr. Benjamin made this known while speaking with journalists in Fez, Morocco, shortly after Nigeria’s hard-fought 3–2 victory over Tunisia.
According to him, although the Super Eagles showed dominance for most parts of the encounter, some lapses were noticed towards the end of the game following a few substitutions. He, however, stressed that such moments are part of tournament football and will be addressed by the technical crew as the competition advances.
“We won the game despite some inadequacies in the dying minutes. These things happen in football, especially when substitutions are made. The important thing is that the team showed quality and character. The Super Eagles will continue to get better,” Benjamin said.
He further appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the team with prayers and encouragement, noting that morale plays a key role in sustaining success at major tournaments.
Nigeria recorded a 3–2 win over Tunisia in their second Group C fixture, dominating proceedings for about 75 minutes before the North Africans pulled back two late goals. The substitutions of Ademola Lookman and Frank Onyeka slightly disrupted the team’s rhythm but did not stop the Eagles from securing all three points.
With the victory, Nigeria now tops Group C with six points from two matches and will face the Cranes of Uganda in their final group game on Tuesday.
