HONOURS B Crowned League Winners as 1st Oloyin Softball Championship Ends


The league phase of the maiden Oloyin Softball Championship concluded in thrilling fashion on Friday at the Adewole Baseball Park, Ilorin, with exciting matches that determined the final standings of the competition.


In the first game of the day, HONOURS B took on AYBSF of C&S College in a closely fought encounter. Both sides showed grit and quality throughout the game, but HONOURS B edged their opponents in a dramatic finish, recording a narrow 15–14 victory. The win marked HONOURS B’s second victory of the league, confirming their position at the top of the table.


The second match featured HONOURS A against AYBSF in a decisive clash to determine second and third positions in the championship. AYBSF delivered an impressive performance, defeating HONOURS A by 15 runs to 6 to secure second place.


At the end of the league matches, HONOURS B emerged as league winners with two victories. AYBSF of C&S College finished second, while HONOURS A settled for third position.


Speaking earlier, the sponsor and convener of the championship, Mr. Lateef Oloyin, said the initiative was born out of his passion to create and sustain awareness of softball, particularly at the grassroots level. He expressed satisfaction with the two-day championship, noting that it met and even exceeded expectations.


Mr. Oloyin also appreciated partners and stakeholders for their unwavering support, which contributed to the successful and hitch-free staging of the event.


The championship attracted notable dignitaries, including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, who commended the convener for his commitment to grassroots sports development and the promotion of softball in the state.


Overall, the Oloyin Softball Championship delivered high-quality competition and underscored the steady growth and development of softball among the participating academies.
