Kwara Govt Moves to Curb Unregulated Ads on Korope, Keke Marwa Over Public Safety Concerns

The Kwara State Government has expressed concern over the growing use of unregulated advertisements on mini buses (Korope) and tricycles (Keke Marwa), warning that the trend is increasingly being exploited by scammers and promoters of unapproved products.

Speaking during a meeting with leadership of major transport unions on Monday, the Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA), Mr. Toba Adeyeye, said the agency would no longer tolerate advertisement materials capable of misleading or endangering members of the public.

Adeyeye noted that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq places high priority on the safety and well-being of Kwarans, hence the need to regulate all forms of outdoor and transit advertising across the state.

He announced that henceforth, individuals, businesses or organisations seeking to place adverts on mini buses or tricycles must formally apply to KWASAA, attach their proposed designs, and obtain official approval before such adverts can be displayed.

Responding on behalf of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the State Secretary, Alhaji Yemi Aliu, assured that the union would communicate the new directives to its members and ensure compliance by referring all advertisers to KWASAA for proper authorisation.

Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of the Transport Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Alhaji Abdulganiyu Isiaka Agba, commended the initiative and called for broader sensitisation to inform the public about the new guidelines.

The Administrative Secretary of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Mr. Babatunde Abdulganiyu, also pledged the association’s cooperation with the agency to enhance public safety and protect lives and property in the state.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from all transport bodies and the government to work together to ensure that outdoor and transit advertising in Kwara State remains safe, responsible, and in line with global best practices.
