Hon. Shola Odetundun Donates Patrol Vehicle to Irepodun Vigilante Group, Distributes Cash, Food Items

Hon. Shola Odetundun, the lawmaker representing Irepodun Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, has donated an operational patrol vehicle to the Irepodun Local Vigilante Group as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security and enhance community safety.

The presentation, which took place at the legislator’s constituency office, forms part of Hon. Odetundun’s sustained commitment to supporting community-based security initiatives and improving the welfare of residents at the grassroots.

The patrol vehicle is expected to significantly improve the mobility, response time and overall operational effectiveness of the vigilante group, thereby complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies in protecting lives and property across Irepodun Local Government and its environs.

In the spirit of the New Year, the lawmaker also distributed cash and food items to members of the local vigilante group, the elderly, widows and other vulnerable members of the community. The gesture was aimed at easing economic hardship and ensuring that the less-privileged were not left out of the festive celebrations.

Earlier, the Irepodun Local Government Council Chairman expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Odetundun, describing the intervention as an uncommon display of love, compassion and selfless service to the people.

He noted that the gesture clearly reflected the lawmaker’s genuine concern for the safety and well-being of the residents.

According to him, beyond addressing immediate security needs, the donation of a high-value operational vehicle demonstrates Hon. Odetundun’s deep understanding of the challenges faced by grassroots security operatives and his unwavering commitment to addressing them. He added that the vehicle would greatly enhance the capacity of the vigilante group to respond promptly to security threats and safeguard lives and property within the local government.

The council chairman also commended the lawmaker for the distribution of food items, describing it as a consistent gesture that reflects his long-standing tradition of supporting the people, especially during festive periods. He further extended appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his leadership and sustained efforts to promote peace and security across the state.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Odetundun, who chairs the House Committee on Business Innovation, Industry and Women Affairs, reaffirmed his commitment to the safety, peace and overall well-being of the people of Irepodun.

He stressed that sustainable development and socio-economic progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and security, describing the protection of lives and property as a top priority of his representation.

The lawmaker also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the deployment of additional security operatives to Kwara State, noting that the intervention underscored the Federal Government’s determination to tackle insecurity nationwide.

He equally praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his proactive leadership and effective collaboration with federal authorities in addressing security challenges in the state.

Hon. Odetundun further appealed to well-meaning individuals, corporate organisations, community associations and faith-based bodies to support security agencies—particularly local vigilante groups—through moral, logistical and material assistance.

He also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

“Security is a collective responsibility. When we all play our roles, we can protect our communities and build a peaceful and prosperous future for our people,” the lawmaker said.
