…hails Gov. AbdulRazaq’s investment in world-class indoor facility

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, has declared Kwara State fully ready to host national and international sporting events following his inspection of the newly renovated Indoor Sports Hall, Ilorin.

Orbih made the declaration on Saturday, January 3, 2026, after a guided tour of the facility led by the Director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Bako, alongside the Technical Director of BFN, Mallam Tunde Kazeem, former Commissioner for Sports Hammed Adio, and other key stakeholders.

Impressed by the upgrade, the BFN President described the Indoor Sports Hall as one of the best rehabilitated sports facilities anywhere in the world, noting that it meets all the fundamental requirements for hosting elite badminton and other indoor sporting competitions.

According to Orbih, the renovation is a clear testament to the Kwara State Government’s strong commitment to sports development, positioning the state as a prime destination for major sporting events.

“What we have seen here today is impressive. The hall is well renovated, spacious, and competition-ready. From every indication, Kwara State is prepared to host both national and international events,” Orbih said.

Speaking during the inspection, Director of Sports Mallam Ibrahim Bako reaffirmed the government’s resolve to sustain sports development across the state. He assured stakeholders of continuous support for sports federations and emphasized that the facility would be properly maintained and effectively utilised.

Bako explained that the renovation aligns with the state government’s broader agenda of reviving sports infrastructure and creating a conducive environment for athletes to train, compete, and excel.

Former International athlete and sports administrator, Hameed Adio, also lauded the Kwara State Government for prioritising sports infrastructure, describing the facility as a major boost to sports growth in the state and evidence of purposeful leadership.

Adio urged sports federations nationwide to take advantage of the facility for competitions, training camps, and development programmes.

“This is a facility to be proud of. I commend the Kwara State Government for this laudable initiative. I encourage sports federations across the country to come, inspect, and utilise this hall. It is good for sports and good for Kwara,” he stated.
