Dr Dazuki Decries Lack of Humanity as Barrier to National Development
A senior lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies at Kwara State University, Dr Jummuah Dazuki, has identified a lack of humanity as a major factor hindering development in the country.
Dr Dazuki, who delivered a lecture themed “Humanity” at the Radio Kwara Tafsir on Thursday, highlighted respect for human dignity, fear of Allah, mercy, forgiveness and modesty as essential virtues needed to restore sanity in society.
He stressed that Islam does not in any way authorise killings or banditry, noting that individuals involved in such criminal acts are not true Muslims. According to him, there is no injunction in Islam that supports violence against innocent people.
The Islamic scholar further explained that Ramadan teaches fear of Allah and encourages almsgiving to the needy, urging Muslims to make judicious use of the sacred month to positively impact the lives of others.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Justice Moshood Adebayo Oniye, affirmed that humanity is rooted in the right to life and freedom of religion without compulsion.
He advised adherents to worship Allah in accordance with the teachings of the Qur’an and Hadith.
The Tafsir programme continues on Monday with Imam Mustapha Oloka as the guest speaker.
