IEYDA Empowers Over 100 Residents at 11th Laylatul Qadr Programme in Ilorin

The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA) has continued to inspire hope and uplift the less privileged through its series of empowerment initiatives aimed at reducing poverty within the community.

The latest intervention was the economic empowerment programme organised during the 11th edition of the association’s Laylatul Qadr celebration held at its Secretariat, Ayisat Adepate House, Edun, Ilorin, on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Speaking at the event, the National President of IEYDA, Alhaji Mohammed Usman Jagunmo, said the association would continue to utilise its platform through strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders to empower and support people silently battling poverty.

Jagunmo acknowledged the unwavering support of donors and sponsors, including AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Senator Saliu Mustapha, Ambassador Abdulfatah Yahaya Seriki and other prominent indigenes of Ilorin for their continued contributions toward providing relief for the needy.

According to him, the association is a non-governmental and non-political organisation that complements government efforts in addressing the growing economic hardship in society.

Over 100 beneficiaries drawn from the local government areas within Ilorin Emirate benefitted from this year’s economic empowerment programme, which featured the distribution of cash and food items.

Jagunmo explained that the initiative has been sustained for over a decade through the support of well-meaning indigenes of Ilorin Emirate.

“We have continued to receive support from well-meaning indigenes of Ilorin Emirate who assist us in reaching out to the needy. We are not a political or government organisation; both politicians and non-politicians support us with cash and materials which we distribute to people in need. We have sustained this effort for the past eleven years,” he said.

The event was attended by several traditional title holders, including the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin and the Alangu Oke-Ogun, among other dignitaries. Their presence, according to the organisers, reflects the association’s non-partisan posture and its commitment to giving voice to the voiceless while promoting community development within Ilorin Emirate.
