Senator Sadiq Umar Commissions School Pitch, Launches 3SU U-23 Ramadan Cup


The Senator representing Kwara North in the National Assembly, Sadiq Umar, has described sports, particularly football, as a global phenomenon that promotes unity and integration among people regardless of religion or ethnicity.


Senator Umar made this remark on Sunday during the official commissioning of a school pitch project he funded and the opening ceremony of the 3SU U-23 Football Competition tagged Ramadan Cup, held at Government Day Secondary School Akerebiata, Ilorin. 


The federal lawmaker explained that the tournament was designed to promote grassroots sports development, especially football, noting that many talented players are discovered from the grassroots level.


 He added that supporting and encouraging young talents would help them build careers in professional football.

Senator Umar further stated that the competition would become an annual event and would rotate across different local government areas to broaden participation and opportunities for young footballers.


He also advised youths to shun drug abuse and alcohol, urging them to remain disciplined and focused in order to achieve their dreams of playing professional football.


According to him, beyond assisting with requested infrastructural needs, his office is committed to promoting sporting activities, particularly football, in order to give greater national visibility to football development in Kwara State.


The event also featured the presentation of jerseys and other kits to participating teams, with the symbolic presentation performed by the sponsor, Senator Umar.


The 3SU U-23 Ramadan Cup is organised by Morrow International Football Promotion. In the opening match of the tournament, Oke-Oyi defeated Flash Bombers by a lone goal, while other matches in the competition will continue on Monday.


Dignitaries at the ceremony were the Kwara FA Chairman,  Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa, Chairman, Balogun Gambari wards Development Association,  Kwara United Supporters Club and Alangua Ibagun,Alh Sakariyau Ibagun
